The scanner measures your core body temperature by capturing the emitted heat from the skin over the temporal artery. Your core temperature is generally an entire degree higher than your oral temperature, and two degrees higher than one’s underarm temperature. Even though using the rectal method is accurate and also measures the core body temperature, the Exergen TemperalScanner can accurately identify quickly changing temperatures whereas the rectal method cannot. I wish they had these when my 4 kids were small.
